Indie Pop takes a back-to-basics "authentic" Rock music approach while mixing melodic, lighthearted and straightforward songwriting with Do-It-Yourself ethos, contrasting the style of Mainstream Pop music.

This genre was pioneered in 1978 in the United Kingdom.
