The rusted video layout is the circle visualizer that NCS has been using on nearly all of their music uploads since early 2013 which represents a substantial part of their brand. The layout features the circle visualizer on the right-hand side and the NoCopyrightSounds logo on the left-hand side of the video. This iconic design was originally created by Daniel, the owner of Rusted Media (a.k.a. Rusted).
History[]
Rusted decided to implement a new layout for his channel during a time when he was friends with Billy Woodford. His initial attempt to create an original visualizer was showcased in the upload Archie & Fareoh - Feathers (shown on the left).
The very first video to feature the new visualizer sent by Rusted was the upload for A Single Step. |
Changes in video layout[]
2013[]
Since the upload of A Single Step, NCS predominantly adopted the corresponding video layout for their content. In late 2013, Billy Woodford discovered a method to remove the bars from the upper and lower sections of the video (by making it 720p resolution instead of 662p), which was first implemented in Stories Can Wait VIP. There were also a few videos with render mistakes or errors, such as Better Now and Reign which had a stretched circle due to incorrect scaling when rendering and Imaginary Friends which had a smaller circle due to incorrectly rescaling the circle into 720p format. |
2014[]
In 2014, Billy Woodford discovered a method to enhance the circle visualizer by eliminating the disperse setting. The particle move in a more organized fashion, forming lines and grids, making it look much less "grainy". In the same year, Billy implemented several enhancements to the glow effects in Hardstyle uploads. The circle looks more saturated. In late 2014, NCS celebrated reaching 1,000,000 subscribers by redesigning the circle into a glowing sphere, making it bolder, marking a significant milestone for the channel. |
2015[]
In 2015, with the release of Titsepoken 2015, the circle visualizer was enhanced with motion blur effects for the first time. It appears to have an FPS of 60, but it actually is set at 29.97 FPS. Additionally, a new logo was introduced for the visualizer. In the spring of that year, NCS introduced the mint circle visualizer, featuring a subtle desaturated color that, while difficult to discern, added a unique touch. Unlike its predecessor, it did not incorporate the "Glow Sphere" effect. This new design was applied to all other red circles styled in the "2014 style," with the exception of Vertigo. In 2015, NCS implemented the "Shadowlet" setting, which added distinctive black corners to the upper right and lower left sides of the visualizer. Following this, they introduced an orange-colored circle, making subtle adjustments to ensure that the "Shadowlet" effect was less noticeable. The settings for both the shadowlet and particles were modified to a Blend Mode of "Normal". |
2016[]
In 2016, a new layout was introduced, known as "2014 Shadowlet." This design is essentially a desaturated version of the 2014 circle layout, reminiscent of the 2015 style, but with the shadowlet setting activated. This added distinctive black corners to the upper right and lower left sides of the circle. In 2016, the "Star" layout was introduced, named after the particle type "Star DOF." The NCS layout had three primary particle settings: Sphere, which is nearly transparent; Glow Sphere, which has a medium opacity; and Star DOF, which is fully opaque. The opacity of the particles allows users to easily identify the Star layout, distinguishing it from others based on the visibility of its particles. Meanwhile, there was a variation of the Star layout that could be seen with the Shadowlet setting turned on. |
2020[]
In 2020, the NCS logo underwent a color transformation from a white to a grey hue per Billy's request for desaturation. He felt that the original background colors were too vibrant and the new design provided a more balanced and visually appealing look. |
2022[]
In 2022, the NCS team made notable updates to the circle glow by reducing its opacity and increasing the glow radius for a more pronounced effect. Additionally, they introduced a new shadow design for the logo. |
2024[]
In 2024, the NCS team simplified the logo by removing the "NoCopyrightSounds" text below the abbreviation. Additionally, the team added an animation to it that is applied to the beginning of each upload where each letter appears out of the background in a snake-like manner. In August 2024, NCS revealed a new layout for the anniversary which included a motion-blur circle and the NCS13 logo. In late 2024, NCS collaborated with Geometry Dash and transformed the original circle layout to look like a square, in accordance to the main character of Geometry Dash being a cube. This layout was made by nasgubb. |
NCS Arcade[]
2022[]
In 2022, NCS unveiled a new label, Arcade. The new brand's video layout is substantially different from the standard layout while still being recognizably tied to the trademark circle of NCS. The particles flow ambiently and shift rightwards when the audio gets louder. The new layout features a logo animation and a circle intro animation. |
2023[]
At the start of 2023, the circle animation was redone to look simpler. In January 2023, NCS introduced a new layout called "NEXT_GEN", for releases from Thorne, iFeature, and JOXION. This layout features two layers of circle, plus a reflection at the bottom of the video. In May 2023, NCS removed the logo write-in animation, instead opting for a fade-in animation. |
Visualizer settings[]
Main info[]
Trapcode 12 and Adobe After Effects CS6 are the essential software required to construct the visualizer and are the only software that can be used. All other After Effects and Trapcode versions can't recreate the circle as shown in the NCS uploads.
- You can buy Trapcode Suite on their official site and ask the support to hand you the Trapcode 12 version.
- You can buy After Effects on their official site and ask the support to hand you the CS6 version.
- You can get the visualizer template here.
- NOTE: You need to know After Effects essentials in order to be able to edit the project.
Color changes[]
Note: some color codes may be inaccurate or unofficial.
2013[]
